A Congress being committed to getting some legislation done isn't wrong, it's what they are there for. BUT, Congress doing it the way they tried; without input from the opposition, in the wee hours of the morning, over a holiday and in the face of obvious public distrust, virtually in the dark. This is not the way to pass legislation or to make a "deal." It is reason to replace them. The public doesn't trust their numbers, the public doesn't want the bill that they came up with in the back room. The public is upset about many of the stipulations of this bill. One of the Senators from my state actually had a near fracus in a "town meeting" on the subject. I want health care reform but not at the cost the Democrats are proposing. To pass legislation just so Obama can say he brought health care reform is ludicrous. What is needed is thoughtful, inciteful, well-planned reform that goes after the abuses in the existing system and going after the insurance companies which have made health care unaffordable for those with and without insurance. One that will protect me from the unscrupulous hospitals and insurance agencies who wants to make money even if they don't provide the service. That's a lack of respect to the people. I agree that there may be a need for some kind of reform to help make health care affordable for the people. But the Pelosi plan is not the one. This is not a pole vault sporting event. And paying congressman off for their vote is not the way to do any kind of business. The health care bill and any bill for that matter should be able to stand alone without all the deal making. We can't afford it. The government should be working for the best interest for the people of the United States. We are having to take pay cuts and cut back on our spending but it looks like the politicians will be getting a pay raise (not deserved) and are not willing to make cut backs of all the pork and waste they are use to spending. So if you really look at the picture it seems as though the politicians really only care about their own interests and not that of the people. Maybe they should take a pay cut, get rid of this high debt and get the country back on the right path.
