Congressional Vote On Russia Trade Bill In Doubt

A number of experts who say the bill to repeal the measure likely dead before Congress goes on hiatus, quotes Christopher Wenk, an international trade lobbyist with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, as saying, "We don't want U.S. companies on the outside looking in when Russia joins the WTO this summer."

U.S. House Will Vote Soon On One-Year Bush Tax Cuts Extension

House majority leader Eric Cantor said Thursday that the House would vote the week of July 30 on legislation to extend the Bush-era tax levels for a year. "We will also be bringing up a bill that will outline the principles for tax reform," Cantor added. He said this bill would be aimed at simplifying the tax code.

Fed Bank President Predicts 8% Unemployment Into Next Year

In a speech Thursday, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco President John Williams said "he expects unemployment to remain at or above 8 percent into next year as the economy enters a period of slower job growth," Bloomberg News reports. In his remarks, Williams said, "Progress on bringing down the unemployment rate has probably slowed to a snail's pace and perhaps even stalled."
