We need a system where our congressional representatives are required to have their constituency know what they plan to do, before they do it. Voters need to regain control of this mess; to continue to allow congressmen to decide w/o our input is allowing the asylum to continue to be run unfettered. Imagine how far the Obamacare fiasco would have gone if the public had been able to vote on go-no go. Or the decision to proceed with Keystone. The list goes on and on that should have been reviewed by the voters to their representative before they are allowed to proceed.

It's time Romney stopped using taxpayer dollars to support his business. Like a textbook socialist, he has exploited the U.S. taxpayer to enrich himself and his family:

Tax breaks for leveraged buyouts are the worst kind of welfare.

The first and only way to start to solve any of these issues is to force the politicians to allow the American people to vote on term limits for all elected and appointed federal government positions. If we the people do not limit the service time for congressmen, senators, judges and other politically motivated employees (just as the presidency is limited to two consecutive, four-year terms or possibiy one 6-year term), none of these bills will ever be legislation that a consensus of elected officials can pass, let alone correctly word and fairly apply as permanent laws.

Washington just does not get the will of the majority of the American people. (And I'm afraid they really don't care.) Having said that, they'd better avoid the fiscal cliff by renewing the Bush-era tax cuts or we stand no chance to turn the economic cart around.

With the present administration, there is very little hope any of thes will be passed. This has been the absolute worst president in our history and the worst Senate leader. They both operate on personal agendas and do not deserve to serve in the positions that they hold. They together with the help of one Nancy Pelosi have all but totally destroyed this country and turned it into just another place on the face of the earth, instead of somewhere special like it has always been. Exceptional was always better than what we have now which is really not much more than a third world country. I find it very difficult to understand as a retired senior ranked law enforcement officer that this man that calls himself the president has been able to commit the crimes that he has and not been arrested or removed from office and I don't mean impeached. I mean removed. (Fired and escorted to the door) Is everyone in Wash. DC scared of him or scared they will be called a racist ? I think they would be called "HEROS."

There is a way to kick-start the repair of our fiscal house and it is contained in HR 25/S 13 in the House and Senate, respectively. The title of both bills is "The Fair Tax Act of 2011." The Chamber needs to take a serious look at this bill and get behind it as the primary way tackle the fiscal problems we are enduring today. See www.fairtax.org for more info.

I have no faith that Congress is capable of dealing with any of the above issues. In fact, looking at the list just reminds me how out of touch Congress really is. They have no connection to the middle class Americans at all anymore. They have the best healthcare and pension packages that 'OUR' money can buy. They get a paycheck whether they do their job or not. I challenge every American to vote out your current encumbent and bring in some new blood! CONGRESS NEEDS AN OVERHAUL. We seriously need to implement term limits for this group.

I don't think any of those things should be addressed. Each would require another fiscal compromise that would further the debt or be stalled. Each of them would better be addressed by an R administration and congress, which could fix the "fiscal cliff" quickly and properly, for example. If R's don't win, the solution to each will be diminished greatly.

We should terminate all financial (salary) and health care benefits when congress is on vacation; PARTICULARLY when they leave unfinished business behind These are not entitlements or "rights", they are priviliges-as is serving!!

The fact is that its the extreme right wing of the republican party that is causing most of the problems in this congress. I am a long time republican and i cannot believe the dysfunction and myopic pandering that i constantly witness coming from this once grand party. Ronald Reagan would be insulted by this one sided rhetoric.

START COMPROMISING for the good of the country and not just your own special interest!!!

I'm a small business owner that did build it.

But, I'm amazed that no one has picked up on the irrefutable intent of:
"Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that ALLOWED you to thrive.

Permitted? In my mind, that implication is far more tyrannical.

We are sick and tired of Harry's gridlock in the Senate!
