Americans Have Said “NO” To Obamacare.

Posted by Chamber Grassroots on March 23rd at 1:34pm

This week marks the 2nd anniversary of the passage of Obamacare, and more than half of all Americans oppose it.

Obamacare serves as a stark reminder that elections have very serious consequences.  We need to send more people to Washington that won’t only oppose job-killing and tax-raising pieces of legislation like Obamacare, but who are also pro-business, pro-jobs, and support policies that will unleash the productive power of the free enterprise system to get our economy roaring again.

As we’ve mentioned, the U.S. Chamber is engaged in an historic and unprecedented voter education campaign in 2012. Because elections have consequences, voters need to know who supports common-sense policies that will create jobs and who supports policies that will harm our economy.

Today, we’re profiling three more voter education ads that highlight the records of three members of Congress:

Wisconsin: Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin

Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin is one of those Washington politicians who’s making it harder for small businesses.  She fought hard for the health care overhaul, which will heap crushing costs onto businesses, strangling them with government red tape, and making it harder for them to grown and put more Americans to work.

Higher taxes.  More regulations.  New burdens on businesses.  That’s Tammy Baldwin’s record.  And we want to make sure Wisconsinites know the truth before they vote:

Michigan: Congressman Fred Upton

As chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee in the House, Congressman Fred Upton has stood strong against new taxes that would have sent energy costs through the roof.  Upton opposed Obamacare and its job-killing mandates and taxes, and he’s heading the fight to repeal it.

Michigan needs more jobs, and Michigan voters should know that they have a pro-jobs friend in Representative in Fred Upton:

Pennsylvania: Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick is fighting to protect Pennsylvanians from the big government onslaught coming from Washington. He opposed Obamacare, and is working with Fred Upton and others to see that it is repealed.  Fitzpatrick knows that it’s not Washington or Congress that will jumpstart our economy — it’s small businesses and American free enterprise that will get America back on track and put Americans back to work.

Pennsylvanians need to know that Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick is on their side, working to protect Pennsylvania jobs and get our economy growing again.

Why do the American people believe it's "Obamacare" or remain the way our healthcare is now? What happened to our ingenuity??? Don't people realize that with Obamacare we will ALL be paying premiums in the guise of taxes that will be much higher than they're paying now? Do they really believe this will be 'free'? I can't understand their 'blinders' way of thinking. What is equally disturbing is that the same mentality doesn't scream that these same people deciding their health care are EXEMPT!!!! It's sad that our country has become sheep and won't stand up against the most blatant form of out of control government rule. At the age of 63, this is the most frightening situation our country has faced. As much as I had hoped his 'change' was to our country's advantage I realize he and his cronies won't benefit us at all.

I currently have health insurance through my former employer at $640/month. This expires in May 2012. Cost to continue my coverage has been quoted at $1776/month with a $1,000 deductible or $820/month with a $7,500 deductible. My medical costs last year with premiums, co-insurance and co-pays were close to $12,000. I have multiple pre-existing conditions and have been denied coverage by multiple insurance companies.

My widow's pension is $2,480/month. My living expenses run $2300/month (these include my medical expenses prior to June 1, 2012). I am 54 years old and have been advised by two of my doctors that I am unable to work. My disability application is still pending although I have already been denied twice. I am not confident of approval.

I am sharing this very personal information because I think that 'running the numbers' is the only way for us to understand the impact on us as individuals, employers, government and a nation. Is Obama Care the issue? Was this a problem pre-Obama care? Because my healthcare needs are more significant than the majority of my fellow Americans, is it appropriate that I pay more for this protection and these services because I will use them more? I can cry that it isn't fair. I can question 'why me?'. Haven't I already encountered more burden from battling my conditions in addtion to trying to find a way to pay for it? How can our employers or our nation afford to pay for it?

What is difficult for me to understand is, in a country as rich as ours, why our people's right to have healthcare is tied to their employment? We are the only country in the world that is set up this way. I am not promoting socialism. I love our democracy. I don't know what the answer is....I just know that, for me, I cannot afford to obtain the medical coverage that I need. I don't want to go bankrupt nor do I want our country to go bankrupt.

Perhaps Obamacare isn't the answer. It's difficult to ascertain when it is a moving target. Healthcare professionals are unable to answer that question for me for this reason. While I do not have the ability to determine what my costs would have been pre-Obamacare, I suspect that the cost to meet my healthcare needs would be just as expensive as they are today. At least, President Obama is making an attempt to make things better. Obamacare may not be working. But pre-Obamacare likely wouldn't work for me either. I'd be interested in doing the math on that one. Does anyone out there have the resources to get the data and crunch these numbers for me? I think the answer might be eye-opening for all of us.

As the first step towards improving our economic position and providing fair and equal healthcare for all, I would like to see Congress and federal workers participate in our social security program like every other American. Take this step, then crunch the numbers and see how that affects our budget deficit. Determine the next 'common sense' step and evaluate that. We all must live within our means as individuals, companies and as a nation.

I count my blessings. I am probably better off financially than many of my fellow Americans. Up until now, I have been able to afford my health care expenses. But beginning June 1st, that will no longer be the case. I will have to pick and choose what health care I receive. I could get more seriously ill, lose my home trying to pay for it or die because I don't get what I need. Am I being overly dramatic? Perhaps. These are fears and I prefer to take constructive action based on reality rather than fear. At some point, some of my fellow Americans will find themselves in the same position I am in. Just know that it's a different perspective from someone in my position.

Count my vote as undecided on Obamacare but also a vote of 'no confidence' for our law makers. My votes will be cast accordingly.

Thank you for letting me share my story and my opinion.

I was checking to see if it would be more inexpensive to purchase medical coverage for my son ( who has a pre-existing condition) than other insurance(s). I was very surprised to see that it would cost $483 per month for a $2500 deductible plan, and over $900 per month for a $500 deductible plan. He can purchase other coverage with a six month waiting period for pre-existing condition(s) for about 1/2 of the cost of the $2500 deductible plan under Obama care. He might as well self insure himself for any health condition up to the $2500 deductible plan. This is supposed to be cheaper?

The High Risk pool is helpful for my husband. Hoever it is still costly. People can not get on this if they already have insurance . That is not right mine is too costly and I cant afford to be off of it for 6 months in order to sign up for high risk. We need a universal healthcare not making insurance companies rich

I am totally disabled and since 'obamacare' has gone into affect my healthcare costs have gone up, my premiums for medicare have gone up, and I cannot afford to buy my medicine . Just exactly how is this supposed to be helpful to me? Drug costs are out of sight for my medication even when I hit the gap and get them at 50% less. I still cannot pay for them at this amount, so I once again ask just where is the help I was told I would get? Obamacare is a joke for those who need it the most.

Dear Family and Friends,
The new healthcare plan has proven a benefit to our family where our Granddaughter is attending law school and was able to be on her parents health care plan. Our grandson was born with a genetic defect and had a Kidney and Liver Transplant in 2007. He could not get health care on a bet with a pre-existing condition. The hypebole is just so much garbage as the politicians have health care and do not want other private individuals to share in a health care option. Be careful of what you criticize and options for balancing the budget. Any bill with security was passed on a heart beat and that is the reason the budget is out of balance along with the recession that left us all in the toilet.
