LivingSocial, Chase Bank award $3M in grants to boost small business

LivingSocial and Chase Bank have awarded grants of $250,000 to 12 small businesses through Mission: Small Business, a grant program designed to promote awareness of the importance of small business in local communities.
The daily-deals site, based in the District, and the bank partnered with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to narrow the selection from nearly 70,000 small business that registered
"LivingSocial strives to energize the relationship between consumers and local businesses, and we were especially thrilled by the energy surrounding the Mission: Small Business program," said Tim O'Shaughnessy, LivingSocial CEO and co-founder. "We are honored to have played a role in identifying the 12 grant recipients and look forward to watching the businesses advance."
The winners were evaluated on their demonstration of a feasible growth plan, creativity, and willingness to make a positive impact within their communities. Winners ranged from Florida to Alaska, and from an energy management solutions provider to a wheelchair maker.
