Goodyear plans to hire 1,000 veterans in the next three years as part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes program.
The commitment will be counted as part of the Chamber’s goal to find work for half a million veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014. Gary Vanderlind is the vice president of human resources for Goodyear. He says that veterans are perfect for the career opportunities the Akron company has available.
Vanderlind on hiring vets
“We just find that the type of culture at Goodyear and the type of culture that they’ve experienced in their military background ends up being a great fit and ends up not only bringing them good employment opportunities but bringing us a high quality of talent to help us meet our business goals.”
Vanderlind says Goodyear has had a long relationship with the U.S. military, dating back to World War I. The company is its top supplier of tires.
